Are you a boardaholic?

Category: Let's talk

In the following post I mention a few of my favorite board posters. I wish to apologize to them in advance. I mean no criticism to them for their particular styles etc. I mention them in particular because they are some of my favorite board posters, and I want to mention their style as examples of different board posts.

Okay, I'll admit it, I am an avid board reader and board poster. I love reading and writing to the boards. But, I was wondering how bad a boardaholic are you? I've noticed that each of us have our own styles of posting, in fact an avid reader could probably identify us just by our posts. For example, my posts tend to be a little wordy (okay pretty damned wordy), and I always sign my posts. Buckeye fan is funny, but not so wordy. Connie/grace is wordy but tends to wonder into untrod territory which can be stemulating. Jenny has never met a punctuation mark she likes but usually wonders into a thought provoking response.

and so on and so on...

Please answer the following questions, and be honest with yourself and us. You don't have to limit yourself to one response. Multiple responses are fine.

1. Which boards do you like to read?
2. Which boards do you almost never read?
3. Who is your favorite board poster?
4. What kind of topic do you like least?
5. What is your worst pet peeve about board postings?
6. What would you change about the boards, if you could?
7. What question do you wish I had asked that I didn't?

Thanks.
Bob

1. Which boards do you like to read?

My favorites are the jokes and game boards. I don't select specific boards to read but generally go to the topics with new posts page and just see what's there.

2. Which boards do you almost never read?

writer's block, grub garage, garage sale, parent talk, accessible games, accessible electronics, geeks are us, the rave board.

3. Who is your favorite board poster?

You are definitely one of my favorites, Bob. I also find interesting and/or entertaining posts by T-roy, Godzilla on Toast, jmbauer, blackbird, harp, and raskalnikof (sorry if I screwed up spelling).

4. What kind of topic do you like least?

I generally stay away from controversial topics. I might read the more serious ones but rarely post to them. I come here to have fun and keep things light, not to get into arguments.

5. What is your worst pet peeve about board postings?

Run-on sentences, bad spelling and/or careless typing, and people who seem to be trying to win some sort of contest by posting the most and just post one stupid and pointless topic after another.

6. What would you change about the boards, if you could?

I can't really think of anything other than perhaps get rid of posts that have not been added to in say six months. In most cases there is no reason to drudge up old topics.

7. What question do you wish I had asked that I didn't?

You asked who our favorite board posters are, so why not ask who our least favorites are?

1. Which boards do you like to read?
As was posted earlier, I automatically go to the topics with new posts. My choice isn’t
always board-driven, but topic-driven.

2. Which boards do you almost never read?
For this one, I’d have to say the Joke board and Grub Garage. Jobhunt is probably up there as well.

3. Who is your favorite board poster?
That’s a hard one. I have several. Blbobby, buckeye fan, Goblin, Willie the Woof come to mind at first.

4. What kind of topic do you like least?
Probably the News and Views. I come to the zone for an escape, and some of the News and view topics are somewhat controversial. Not that I dislike debate, but like I said, I come here for an escape.

5. What is your worst pet peeve about board postings?
Run-on sentences without punctuation marks. Damn JAWS won’t come up for a breath, and I listen to it at a high speed, and it makes me hyper. Also, the redundant posts. It would be helpful if people looked at the board posts under relevant topics before they begin a new one. They might find their question has already been addressed.

6. What would you change about the boards, if you could?
I agree with Becky, in that some of the really old posts maybe should be deleted or at least locked out.

7. What question do you wish I had asked that I didn't?
None I can think of.

Thanks for this topic.

Lou

1. Which boards do you like to read? *** My choices of reading material are governed by the 'topics with new posts' page.
2. Which boards do you almost never read? *** I've never attempted to keep an active count, so again: My choices of reading material are governed by the 'topics with new posts' page.
3. Who is your favorite board poster? *** I come here primarily to be entertained. Thus, those who can't type, spell, or proofread, etc make my list. Others who are interesting/witty/funny/etc include: Becky (757), Bob (3329), Kevin (255), user 3782...
4. What kind of topic do you like least? *** I'll read anything with an ear-catching subject.
5. What is your worst pet peeve about board postings?
6. What would you change about the boards, if you could?
*** Provide a searchable index by keywords in both the subject and body of a post.
7. What question do you wish I had asked that I didn't? Well, I'm ever so curious how one wonders into places and territories?

What I do is I go to the topics with new post and read that. I almost never go into a spacific catagory unless I'm trying to find a certain post. When I find a topic I like I reply to it. If I don't answer your topic it's either because it doesn't interest me or if you are asking a question or need help it's because I honestly don't know your answer. I like the joke bord and rant bord as the rant bord amuses me, and the joke bord I post my own jokes and I read ones that i can forward to my friends.

1. Which boards do you like to read?
I, too, go to the recently posted topics for my reading pleasure. But will occasionally check geeks or us and jokes to see if I've missed anything.

2. Which boards do you almost never read?
Broadcaster's Lounge, Cinema 31, Cram Session, Jam Session, and Teen Topics. They just aren't my thing.

3. Who is your favorite board poster?
t-roy, buckeye fan, Motivated (Becky says you are one of her favorites too), Raskolnikov, Gemini, Godzilla on toast. Too many to name.
4. What kind of topic do you like least?
hate the a to z things, but play the books one now. Board topics that mention another zoner by name, or topics that start with "which zoner....".
5. What is your worst pet peeve about board postings?
Topic titles that don't mean anything, board posts that you need a translator to decipher.
6. What would you change about the boards, if you could?
Nothing. Oh well, maybe a built-in spell checker.
7. What question do you wish I had asked that I didn't?
I wonder Why does Jmbauer wander off in his answer to question 7? (That was very perceptive Jim.)

Thanks,
Bob

1. Which boards do you like to read?

I usually just go to the topics with new posts. from there, I can see what's new, and also the old ones, that people are still replying to.

2. Which boards do you almost never read?

As someone else said, I'm more of a topic title person, rather than a board title person, but I usually don't read anything from teen topics, broadcaster's lounge, or cram session, unless a title catches my interest. I never read anything from single spit swap.

3. Who is your favorite board poster?

Right now, off the top of my head, I can think of Buckeye Fan, and Blbobby. I think Goblin sparks some interesting ones at times, too. There's some more, but I can't think of their names at the moment.

4. What kind of topic do you like least?

Right now, I can't really think of anything in particular. I'll read anything that catches my interest.

5. What is your worst pet peeve about board postings?

When there are run on sentences, and absolutely no punctuation, whatsoever. Like Bob said, it's the board postings where you need a translator just to understand half of what it's saying.

6. What would you change about the boards, if you could?

I think it'd be nice to have some sort of search feature, where you could type in one or more key words, and you'd get a list of what the system finds, matching your request.

7. What question do you wish I had asked that I didn't?

I can't think of one at the moment.

Interesting topic, Bob.

To quote post 6, "My choices of reading material are governed by the 'topics with new posts' page."

2. Which boards do you almost never read?
See answer to question 1.

3. Who is your favorite board poster?
Anyone with decent punctuation, grammar and/or a humorous remark.

4. What kind of topic do you like least?
Hmm. Stupid questions amuse me more than annoy me, so none really.

5. What is your worst pet peeve about board postings?
WeLl EiThEr WhEn pEopLe use MixeD Case. either that or when people just run on and on and on with out a punctuation mark in site and it just keeps going on for miles and miles and they could care less

6. What would you change about the boards, if you could?
A built-in search feature would be great.

7. What question do you wish I had asked that I didn't?
Are you on any chinese opium of any kind at this moment?

Okay:
1. I love the religion topics board.
2. I never read the geeks r us board because all I need a computer to do is function, and I have no clue about detailed programming or technical details.
3. I honestly have no favourite poster. sorry.
4. Topics about sex, with very offending contents
5. when a post is posted more than once
6. I would give every user a warning immediately if they post a topic/reply that doesn't belong to the board and is offensive. For example a rudue topic against religion in the religious topics board.
7. Can't think of any

1. Which boards do you like to read?
I almost always just go to the Topics with New Posts section, but the ones I usually end up reading from are Let's Talk, News And Views, Game Parlor, and Dating And Relationships.

2. Which boards do you almost never read?
I usually don't read stuff from Getting To Know You, Singles Spit Swap, Broadcaster's Lounge, and Writer's Block.

3. Who is your favorite board poster?
My 2 favorites are Raskolnikov and Goblin.

4. What kind of topic do you like least?
My least liked topics are the dating ad ones because you pretty much always know what the responses will be anyway without even reading them.

5. What is your worst pet peeve about board postings?
When there is just one-word responses like "LOL," and when there is no punctuation in the posts.

6. What would you change about the boards, if you could?
There really should be some kind of search feature on the Zone for them.

7. What question do you wish I had asked that I didn't?
Well, Since you have about most and least-favorite topics: Who is our least-favorite board poster.?

Post 16 by wonderwoman (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Saturday, 23-Dec-2006 20:34:14

which boards do I like to read? let's talk, safe haven, therant board, book nook, zone bbs suggestions, sometimes getting to know you.
which boards do I hardly ever read? writers block, health and wellness, grub garage.I never ever read the joke board or singles spit swap, or dating and relationships. I choose to read each board individually, because if i choose the topics with new posts, I'd have to plow through a bunch of topics that have no interest fodr me. I tend to read writers block only if I'm posting a story, then i read others writings because if I want them to read mine, then the polite thing to do is read theirs also, otherwise i hardly ever read that board.
Who is my favorite poster? Nikos.
What topics do I like least? grouchy topics that put other people's topics down just because they consider them boring and not worthy, sexually offensive topics.
what is my favorite pet peeves about board posts? well at the risk of repeating myself in questrion number 4 posts that put other people down because they think their topics boring, or people who aredetermined to have their own kind of fun at other people's expense.
Whata would I change about the boards if I could? the ability to show only the boards and topicsthat interest me, or at least to have all the boards i read frequently at the top.
what question do I wish you'd asked that you didn't? well, hardto say, because it would be a toss up between what is your most favoritte board, and what question are you glad I didn't ask, lol. interesting and thought provoking topic.
